PRACTICAL ADVICE
The fresher the better
1. The fresher the juice the better it is. Try to drink juice on the day of juicing. If you want to keep it for longer, store it in a fridge in a closed airtight container, which should ideally be made of glass.
2. If you are used to supermarket juices, you may initially find the texture and taste of fresh juices irritating. They are thicker and have more intensive taste, they can also be in strange colours. Try and give them a chance! They are really much better and healthier than juices from a supermarket shelf.
3. Most recipes for vegetable juices are intended for adults, children below the age of 13 should not drink more than 150 ml of juice. Besides, children should only drink juice diluted with water; it is necessary as juices, usually thick and condensed, may be troublesome for a young digestive system. This does not apply to fruit juices which are an exceptionally good source of energy and vitamins for children.
4. It is recommended for adults to drink vegetable juices undiluted, but if you prefer diluted juice, feel free to have it. For diluting we recommend water with a low mineral content (water with a high mineral content may change the taste of juice). The maximum amount of juice for “beginners” is three glasses (230 ml) a day. In time you can increase it to six glasses.
5. Do not mix fruit juice with vegetable juice to avoid stomach problems. Carrots and apples are an exception.
6. If you suffer from any chronic conditions, you should consult your doctor and follow the doctor’s advice. For example, diabetes sufferers are recommended to have vegetable juices only as fruit juice has a high level of sugars.
